In the field of tank truck manufacturing, al alloy 5083 has become the preferred material due to its excellent comprehensive performance. This aluminum-magnesium alloy not only has the advantage of lightweight, but also has excellent corrosion resistance, weldability and strength, and is widely used in the manufacture of various types of tank trucks.

The main types of tank trucks

Fuel tankers

They are used to transport liquid fuels such as gasoline and diesel, and have extremely high requirements for corrosion resistance and safety. 5083 aluminum plate can effectively resist fuel erosion due to its high magnesium content (4.0%-4.9%), and its lightweight characteristics can reduce the vehicle's own weight and improve transportation efficiency. For example, the 5083 aluminum plate produced by Haomei Aluminum has passed the EN 14286 (European safety standard for liquid transport tankers) certification and is widely used in domestic and foreign tanker manufacturing.

LNG tank trucks

LNG (liquefied natural gas) tank trucks need to withstand ultra-low temperature environments of -162℃, and 5083 aluminum plates can still maintain good strength and toughness at low temperatures. Its H321 state (cold processing + stabilization treatment) has excellent stress corrosion resistance and is suitable for manufacturing the main structure of LNG tanks.

Chemical transport tanker

Tankers that transport corrosive chemicals such as acids and alkalis have strict requirements on material corrosion resistance. The H116 state (hot processing + stabilization treatment) of 5083 aluminum plate has enhanced intergranular corrosion resistance through a special process, and is suitable for the tank body and internal partitions.

Cement tankers and grain transport tankers

This type of tanker needs to frequently load and unload granular goods. The H111 state of 5083 aluminum plate (slightly cold worked after hot working) provides medium strength and good formability, which is suitable for manufacturing tank side panels and reinforcement ribs. Aluminum cement tankers are 20% lighter than steel ones and have a 30% higher transportation efficiency.

Refrigerated trucks and refrigerated containers

Refrigerated trucks need to maintain structural stability in low temperature environments. The O state (annealed state) of 5083 aluminum plate has good ductility and is suitable for the bending and forming of tank heads and partitions. Its corrosion resistance can prevent the erosion of the tank body by refrigerants and extend its service life.

Its main tempers

5083 h111: Slightly cold worked after hot working, medium strength (tensile strength 270-350MPa), good formability, excellent welding performance.

5083 H32: After cold working, the yield strength is increased to 215MPa, and the corrosion resistance is enhanced.

5083 H321: Based on H32, the stabilization process is optimized, and the stress corrosion resistance is significantly improved, which is suitable for marine environment.

5083 H116: Stabilization treatment after hot working, tensile strength ≥305MPa, outstanding seawater corrosion resistance.

5083 O: Completely annealed, lowest hardness (HB about 65), best ductility.
